"Glass skin" refers to a skincare trend originating from South Korea that aims to achieve a complexion that looks clear, smooth, and translucent, similar to glass. Skin appears incredibly hydrated, plump, and free from blemishes, scars, and large pores.
Achieving glass skin involves a rigorous skincare routine that focuses on hydration, exfoliation, and gentle care to promote healthy, radiant skin. These routines are not for the time-crunched person and due to the number of products used, quite costly.
But, can you actually have glass skin?
Short answer? Not really, especially as we age. We are human and our skin is an organ; it has hair, pores and lines. All skin has texture! What we tend to see online are photos taken in very bright light with skin that has just been heavily loaded with products so, yes, the skin has an otherworldly shine and glow- and to be honest, the IG models of glass skin tend to be in their 20s. Does it stay that way? No.
Often, those who seek the glass skin look are overly aggressive with their skin, doing too much laser and chemical peels. Skin becomes tight and shiny when it is strained and too dry, and then skin that is too over-processed eventually rebels and texture worsens, oil production worsens, the look of lines worsen.
The goal is healthy skin! Healthy skin that is well cared for and balanced will have a beautiful smooth texture, minimized lines, reduced pores, even skin tone, and a glow. Your skin glows from the right care, the right level of exfoliation, the right cocktail of serums and lipids (fats).
