What is Holistic Skincare?

Holistic skincare integrates daily skincare routines, dietary adjustments for certain chronic skin conditions, and lifestyle changes to promote healthy skin and combat signs of damage and aging. The skin, being our largest organ is a vital indicator for our overall health.

Unfortunately, confusion often arises from misconceptions perpetuated by marketing claims, such as equating holistic skincare solely with organic ingredients, ancient traditions, or products that are not manufactured, for example, beef tallow or putting coconut oil directly on our face.

With my clients who suffer from a chronic issue, like acne, I try to advocate for a holistic approach through tailored skincare regimens but also encourage them to seek nutritional help or ways to manage stress.

Holistic skincare goes beyond superficial treatments and focuses on the skin's natural renewal process. This is why some of my facials are focused toward massage - as a means for some clients to reduce stress and feel restored. This is also why I don't recommend Retin-A since I am looking at the long term health of your skin.

A New Perspective with Holistic Skincare

Traditional skincare tends to focus on addressing specific skin issues like acne or aging without considering the broader context of the skin's renewal cycle. For instance, targeting excess sebum production to treat acne may inadvertently compromise the skin barrier, leading to increased sensitivity and other concerns.

Holistic Approaches to Common Skin Issues

When addressing common skin issues like acne or hyperpigmentation, a holistic approach emphasizes not only symptom management but also addressing underlying causes. For instance, rather than solely suppressing melanin production in cases of hyperpigmentation, a multifaceted regimen that promotes collagen growth and skin cell turnover can yield more sustainable results.

Similarly, combating signs of aging requires a comprehensive strategy that includes ingredients like peptides and antioxidants, along with measures to replenish the skin barrier.

Ultimately, protecting our skin involves understanding how it functions and supporting these natural processes rather than disrupting them.

By nourishing every step of the skin renewal cycle, holistic skincare promotes healthier, clearer, and more radiant skin from within and these are results that build and last over time.
