One facial is a treat, the start of a journey but not life changing. The magic comes with the commitment, like anything in life - you need to put the time in. Those muscles don't exercise themselves, the skin does not just change - you need to show up. So what does one facial do, and what does regularity provide?
We often have clients coming in for their first facial and they have years of damage that presents as deep lines, dry skin, rough patches, acne (inflamed and non inflamed, sun damage and more. During the consult, we often have to reset their expectations for what one facial does and does not do.
Let's put this into perspective:
Think of your body - the years of not working out, or irregularly working out, maybe eating fast food a few times a month, maybe drinking too many sugary drinks, alcohol or soda, not getting enough sleep and not eating a balanced diet daily.
Would you go to the gym once and expect years of damage and neglect to vanish after one workout?
If you ate perfectly healthy for one whole day, would you expect your health to be totally perfect and on track, weight ideal, blood tests perfect?
Think of your teeth. Imagine if you only flossed the day of your dental appointment and skipped the other days of the year. Do you think one dental cleaning will reset you back to a healthy ideal?
One facial is the starting point, it is not transformation.
One facial is the start of the journey, the start of transformation. One facial is not revolutionary to your skin.
I think we often forget that our skin is an organ - our largest organ and one that is constantly exposed to damage - both external and internal. The things that we expose ourselves to and the things we do that cumulatively damage our skin do not vanish with one serum, or one facial, or one week of wearing SPF.
One facial does a deep cleaning and starts- STARTS- your skin on a new pathway, after skin has been deeply cleansed, assessed, and treated, the work is just starting.
Depending on your skin, your issues, your past, your lifestyle - there are so many factors in hand for how we come to to talk to you about your skin, but like the gym - those muscles don't exercise themselves.
Healthy skin is possible at all ages!
Yes, you can have radiant, glowing and healthy skin at any age - 20, 50, and 100.
Younger clients often have less 'work' to do because their skin is highly active, healthy, better at managing damage, has experienced less cumulative damage, and has a fast cell turn over rate.
Then one day, that 20 year old wakes up and is 50 and they do not know how they aged so fast. Often I hear, “I aged so much overnight”.
While not true, it sure can feel like that but, what you are seeing is skin that is slowing down, not managing damage well, not protecting itself well from current and future damage, and that fast cell turn over rate you once enjoyed, has slowed down significantly like a snail in a coma.
Skin is not a guessing game. We know what the skin needs but, at home most of us are not using the right products for our skin - our skin as it is today, at this age, with our specific damage.
This is where the commitment comes in.
Four to six weeks is the cycle we recommend for facials. Can it be more or less? Yes, it depends on the skin, the person, their issues and other factors.
We tend to be on a 4-6 week cycle so we can manage your skin cell's turnover rates.
Regular facials slow the appearance of aging, they reset the skin, keep it hydrated, keep damage at bay, repair damage, manage breakouts and change with you and you age and change.
Your home skin care routine is essentially your diet.
You can't eat junk all day and workout 5 days a week and expect results. Your home skincare routine can very easily sabotage and undo the work we do in the office. It is as simple as that. Yes, using one wrong product can create weeks of regression.
So this is where you decide, what progress do you really want to see and are you ready to start?
